9 years, Different Seasons, Same God

9 years ago today, I wrote my first article for a blogging page. If you’re not familiar with this story, it’s my favorite one to tell!
As a junior in college, I did the National Student Exchange program. One of my requirements was to write an article about the program. Instead of writing one article, I signed up to write for this blog. It still blows my mind that I used to publish an article every week and now I can barely publish once a month. But again, different season, same God.
When I started writing, it was purely from my heart and soul. I really enjoyed writing whatever was on my mind from a college student perspective. When I gave my life to Christ, it shifted to become about my faith journey.
9 years later, I’m sitting here reflecting on the goodness of God. Something that was pure curiosity turned out to be my actual career. I enjoyed writing and anything that aligns with communications, but I never knew it could be an actual career. But God knew that. I remember how much I used to complain when my editor would change some of my ideas when I submitted my writing. Eventually, I got used to it. 9 years later, when I write an article for work, we have editors as well.
God is so kind to have trained me for today. A lot of things were trial and error. I feel like if God gave me a glimpse of the future, maybe I wouldn’t have some of the attitudes I had. But I’m glad that God still guided me to where I am today.
If there’s anything I’ve learned during the past 9 years, it’s that God doesn’t waste anything. He used the skills I built while practicing my craft to create a fulfilling career. One thing I share with my students is that when you find something you’re excited about, pay attention to that feeling. It may very well be something that pays dividends in the future. Could I have become a great medical doctor? Absolutely! Would I have been just as passionate about my career as I am now? We will never know, and at last, I’m okay with that!
Nine years ago, I was simply writing because I enjoyed it. I had no idea where it would lead me. But God knew.
9 years, different seasons, different versions of me, different opportunities, but the same God.
Praying that you pay attention to the thing that makes you happy today. Who knows? It may become your career!
