A Leap of Faith: Resigning Without A Contract

Sometimes all you need is a leap of faith.

Have you ever felt stuck? Like you don't know what you should be doing? You pray and feel like you hear from God, but you still feel stuck again or, in true Peter fashion, you're sinking after asking Jesus to let you walk on water.

If you're not familiar with the story of Peter, here’s a quick synopsis:

Matthew 14:28-33 28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”

29 “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” 31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” 32 And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. 33 Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

About a year ago, I made a career change. That change kept me on my toes (spiritually). I asked God to tell me to come to him on the water. On June 19, I resigned from my job without having an offer letter. To most that is crazy. Honestly, I asked myself If I was nuts a few times. Granted, I moved for my last job and truly enjoyed the wonderful work that I did. During that time, I didn't tell any of my friends that I didn't have an offer because I didn't want doubt to creep in. I didn't want to start sinking like Peter. From June 19 to 24, my mind was racing. I asked myself if I made the right choice. I kept reminding myself that God will take care of me no matter what. I fasted and prayed. I stayed in the spirit for those 5 days.

On June 24, I realized that every step was ordained by God. Here’s what I wrote in my journal last year to reflect on what happened and share with a few friends who were praying for me:

A handwritten note in the Notes app discusses receiving a verbal job offer, resigning without a formal letter, faith, and emotional struggles.

Bible verse Psalm 25:1-3 NIV about trust, followed by personal reflections, mention of a received offer, and the phrase "I SERVE A BIG GOD!"

It was a leap of faith. Saying yes and resigning without an offer letter is crazy, but better yet, an act of faith.

Here I am again, a year later, and God is asking me to publish all of my journal entries from last year while I was dealing with all of those mixed emotions. Sometimes you have to trust and take a leap of faith. If you know exactly how something will turn out, you don’t need faith for that.

My prayer is that this article will revive your faith and encourage you to take a leap of faith in all the areas where the Lord is leading you. I invite you to take a leap of faith today.

What is a leap of faith that you will take today? Let me know in the comments below.

My leap of faith: I am going to share the date for my wedding with a few specific people. Yes, I’m single like a Pringle (but only until the end of this month!).
